Danish design
Tuesday, July 31st, 2007
Got back from Copenhagen last night. Ignoring the cheesy tourist clubs, I need to revisit at some point. Interesting and accessible culture, helped hugely by the Danes’ humbling knowledge of English. Throw in pretty girls, good beer, and of course a good deal of nice design (even the theme park’s gift shop went beyond the usual tat) and it makes for my kind of place.
For some reason – perhaps it’s a seasonal thing – the place was full of garish cow statues. Examples below. Anyone able to shed any light on this? Loved them, regardless.
The contrast was quite noticeable when I landed back at Heathrow. Everyone knows Heathrow’s awful, but really, how the hell did we fall so far behind? Ludicrous layout, long queues, poor signage, mediocre transport. Made me somewhat embarrassed to be a local.

Fowler is a Bluebird

Even the removals guy had heard of Robbie, and he hates football. We’ve seen some great players at Cardiff (let’s not forget Koumas just went for £5.5m to Wigan) but this is the first time we’ve ever had someone who, at his peak, was world class. Of course he’s not the player he once was, but still, perhaps we’re finally showing the ambition we’ve played lip service to for so long.
New strip’s not bad either, eh?

Play/Pause
Sunday, July 22nd, 2007
Just a quick life update, before normal service of sketchy design rants resumes.
At long last, I’ve moved into my new place in Highbury, after a long time in the wilderness of Zone 5. Very pretty it is too. The Arsenal stadium is the view from my window, and the train tracks are rather closer (and louder) than I remember. Later today I shall rediscover the joys of the supermarket: fresh milk, quality bread, fruit.
And, of course, the internet. My del.icio.us ‘@read’ backlog is slowly diminishing. I’ve finally had a chance to immerse myself in Facebook stalking, and then got bored.
All I need to do now is remember how to blog.
