I remember the kerfuffle this time last year about the 'social graph' and cast my mind back to even my own basic knowledge about Social Network Analysis, gained a few years ago from studying some KM theory. None of the 'social media enthusiasts' I spoke to had even heard of it. It was about this time I started to truly loathe the hype. Sandy, I have no doubts that you’re right. Despite there being a great deal of study of this already (and indeed a several thousand years of social activity to study). Admittedly trying to read academic works from, say, Habermas, is not an easy for web designers. But its all there. It’s even worse in the field of social media, where snake oil salesmen, erm, I mean thought leaders in web 2.0 seem to think they are discovering social activity. Despite there being a great deal of study of this already (and indeed a several thousand years of social activity to study).
