Hi Tom & Cennydd,

I came across mid-project iteration zero as part of my research. If I remember correctly, some of my participants had done this, while others expressed a need for it. I have to go back to my findings to prepare for Agile09, anyway, so I'll see what I can find on that to back it up.

Cheers,
Johanna

As for running it again – it's certainly a possibility, and I'm keen to make the most of the effort it took. However, in our three hour session we covered perhaps 40% of this material. Cutting it down for a shorter session might prove challenging :)

Hi Tom,

I wouldn't say mid-project iteration zero is an established practice, more an experimental one that I've heard reported anecdotally. It originally came up in discussion with Johanna a little while ago; perhaps she will have references. I mention it more as an interesting & appealing idea than the One True Way.

I have done something similar in a previous project but I'm struggling to remember if it was at Clearleft or uSwitch. I'll try to remember what the circumstances were, but I seem to remember it was largely driven / permitted by people being on holiday to the extent that meaningful development was impossible. A happy accident, if you like.

Looks really nice Cennydd - annoyed I couldn't make it :) Do you have any plans to repeat the session at another event? *cough* UXBrighton *cough*

One thing that stumped me tho... mid-project iteration zero. I saw some a reference to this in your ALA article too, as an established practice - but I can't find anyone else who's done it. Got any URLs?
